So yesterday evening, two bloggers and myself got the opportunity to meet with the wonderful brother and sister duo James and Samantha, and James' lovely girlfriend Faye. Both James and Samantha have been working non stop to bring together an exciting new concept to Nottingham. The Loom, which is situated opposite the Contemporary, has had an exciting new revamp and we had the pleasure of hearing all about it. The Loom is owned by Poseidon Kumar who is a very talented man and he has given Samantha and James the platform to Launch the Creative Factory!
The Loom opened in November last year and has undergone a Hollywood glamour transformation. As James took us on a tour of the building you could clearly see how his vision had been brought to life. "It's almost like a time tunnel - everything is monochrome, it's like being in a Rock and Roll film. Then you walk up the steps and there's colour. I wanted it to be like Dorothy arriving in Oz!" This is something that, when you walk into the room, is really prominent. There's a Hollywood wall of fame painted in black and white, and as you continue round a painting of Dorothy with Toto!
Then, as you enter the back room the paintings continue and the historical and cultural references are evident throughout. James did almost all of the paintings in The Loom and as he spoke about them, and the idea they had for the Creative Factory, you could see that Warhol and 70's New York were huge inspirations for him.
But the imagery doesn't stop there and taking up a whole wall are the most incredible stained glass windows of all the people that have inspired their work; Andy Warhol, Blondie and Superman are just a few of the people to feature, and if you ask why those specific people were chosen there is a reason behind every choice they made.

If the artwork alone hasn't got you itching to take a visit there, what they plan to do with the Creative Factory surely will! As we sat down to have a chat about their plans, it was so clear to see just how passionate both Samantha and James were. Not only about this project, but about Nottingham as a city. Their aim for the Creative Factory is to have it as an open working space for anyone who wants/needs a place to work. From artists to sculptors, anyone who wants a place to feel connected and appreciated for their work. One thing that the siblings couldn't stress enough was just how much they wanted the place to feel like a home to people. They want the Creative Factory to have a sense of community and help anyone who wants to get into the creative industry launch themselves. Not only this but in the evenings the space will become an exhibition hall for these people to promote and showcase their work, with the opportunity for anyone to buy what these people have created!

To top this amazing place off, they even serve drinks and food, that once again have been inspired by the history of the arts. So much time, effort and detail has gone into making every little thing fit perfectly with their theme. James' girlfriend Faye (who is an awesomely talented graphic designer) designed the illustrations for both the drinks and food menu. Plus the food is A-M-A-ZING! Seriously the chicken wings are the best.

I can promise you that these images do not do this place justice, and you must go down and visit The Loom for yourselves! You will not be disappointed, and a huge thank you to Samantha, James, Poseidon and Faye for taking the time to talk with us, you are inspiring to creatives everywhere!
