So this is a little mini series that I have been thinking of creating for a while now, and I've finally decided to just roll with it. The reason behind wanting to create these posts is because I love reading about what other people enjoy, as this gives me inspiration for things I need to read/watch/eat ect...
In this blog post i'll be showing you my 'Top 5' favourite books of all time. I wanted this to be the first in this series, as I know how much I love reading about other peoples book recommendations, because I don't think you can ever have to many books!
Okay, so this book literally tore away at my heart, (for reasons that I will not go into as I want this post to remain spoiler free!) and because of that, I genuinely believe that this book will stay with me forever. Moyes' writing style was just perfect for this novel and I'm pretty sure I've lost count of the amount of people that I've instructed to read this book asap! I can't pinpoint what exactly it is that I love some much about this book, but I feel that it has something to do with the strong connection that I developed towards the characters within this novel; and through every twist and turn I felt like I was right there with them, crying and laughing and crying again, along the way. *Can I just add that I am ridiculously excited for the film to be released next week and I have my tissues on standby already.
2. The Host - Stephanie Meyer
I'm not going to lie, when I first picked up this book, it took me at least three attempts to actually get into the plot (I mean come on it's 600+ pages) and I've had a similar reaction from friends that have read it too. However, despite the difficult beginning, I can honestly say that Meyer did not disappoint. For me this novel went above and beyond the overly hyped* Twilight saga, and opened my mind to a completely new and exciting concept that I had never read about before. Yet again this is a novel that will stick with me for years to come, as how many people can say that they've read a book with a 'love square' shall we say, with only 3 people. (Intrigued - read the book, you won't regret it) Definitely a must for lovers of fantasy but also a bit of cheesy romance.
*my personal opinion, please don't hate me.
3. The Lunar Chronicles: Cress - Marissa Meyer
I couldn't complete this list without adding in a novel from the ever so popular Lunar Chronicles series, and rightly so. I have no shame in admitting that I have a love for anything that is a fairytale remake (Once Upon a Time is a dream come true), so any opportunity I get to read a novel inspired by a fairy story, I have to check it out. (If you want to see my favourites leave a comment below!) When I picked up the first novel in this series , I was hooked from the get go. However, if I had to choose, the third book 'Cress' would definitely be my favourite, it's a retelling of Rapunzel (If you couldn't guess by the book cover). I love Meyer's character development and how they each have their own stories that get intertwined together. This series is a must for anyone who loves fairy stories, romance and fantasy all smooshed into one.
I had to include this novel, purely for its' incredible plot twist. I don't feel like I should say any more than that as I don't want to ruin it, but what I will add is that after I finished this novel, I had to re-read parts to see how I had missed what was coming! I also began counting down the days till the second in the trilogy was released, and now I am doing the same till the third, they were that good!
This novel is the first in a quartet by Fitzpatrick and the reason I included this on my list, is not because it's the most amazingly written novel in the world, or because the characters are mind blowing; it's because when I think back to the time I really found a love for reading, this novel is one of the first that comes to mind. I can still remember the final scenes of this book and how I pictured them so vividly in my head. Also the male lead Patch, (in my head at least), was possibly the best looking male character ever. I just loved the story line and the exploration of fallen angels was something that I had never really read about before, and that new concept excited me, so I couldn't create a Top 5 without this in it.
There you go my lovelies, those are my Top 5 favourite novels (so far). I can't wait to read more to see if any of these will loose their place in my rankings. Also if you have any recommendations based of my favourites that you think I should read please leave them in the comments below, as I'm always looking for something new to invest in!!
