Today's post is all about my experience with the misconceptions surrounding the fashion industry. I've lost count of the amount of times that I've had to explain to people that just because I'm taking a fashion course, that doesn't automatically mean that I will be spending my degree making clothes; the standard reply of ' that sounds fun.' Frankly in todays society this perception of what a fashion course involves, shocks me. There is so much more to the industry and the job roles that are available.
Then when I explain what I am actually going to be doing over the next 3 years, many look at me in awe; usually with the response of 'Oh, that actually sounds really interesting.'
In a recent study the British Fashion Council stated that, 'The UK fashion industry contributes £20.9 billion to the UK economy.' which isa huge income sole from one industry.

In a recent lecture we began to look at just how many roles there are within the industry and all of the different jobs that we could possibly undertake, these ranged from being a fashion buyer for a retail company to PR and events management. Then you have journalism, art direction and trend forecasting, to name a few. Obviously the list doesn't stop there and I feel that so many people are unintentionally uneducated on just what the industry has to offer. You don't have to pick up a sowing machine to be involved in fashion and I think that a lot of people forget or don't even realise this; and that in itself is such a shame. The industry is so full of life, constantly changing and thriving on new talent and all types of creatives.
So next time you hear someone say they are studying a fashion course, remember the industry isn't just making clothes, there is so so much more to it than that.
Until next time my lovelies,
Abi

Really interesting, and I totally agree. It annoys me a lot when people have preconceptions about particular university courses - I study a joint honours in English and Media, and often people will say 'Oh so that's reading books and watching films' .... it's silly because it's so, so much more than that! Really like your blog, so glad I found it tonight and have followed on Bloglovin'. :)
