NFW Braderie - It's Vintage Baby!

Over the weekend I visited 2 of Nottingham's vintage stores Braderie and Cow. Both brands are super cool and a full to the brim of vintage one off pieces. Todays' blog is all about Braderie and stay tuned tomorrow for the Cow instalment.

So...
Braderie is a Vintage store located in one of Nottinghams' most creative areas. As I walked inside I was greeted warmly by the friendly staff members Gemma and Sophie who throughout the afternoon were nothing but kind and helpful!

Time for the Interview...

- Tell me about your brand and what your values are.
Gemma - It's about getting good quality, genuine vintage items, that can fit in with the modern style right now.

- What do you particularly like about the fashion scene in Nottingham?
Gemma - I think it's really good, there's a nice mix; people appreciate mixing vintage pieces with the high street and making it their own. Especially in this area it is very arty and very cool, people definitely do make an effort in Nottingham.
Sophie - You can explore the style here, you're very free.

- What do you think is particularly popular about the brand? What sells well?
Gemma - The 90's stuff, pastel high waisted skirts. The silk blouses are quite 80's but they're tied up and paired with 90's style skirts.
Sophie - We kind of split off the shop into bright spring vibrant vintage wear and then more monochrome sections. It really depends on the individual's personal style really.
Gemma- Men's wear is really popular with sports wear generally, within the sweats now we have Champion and Adidas pieces for men. Women tend to prefer the gypsy trousers that we have which are quite summery and suede jackets were popular but they have chilled out a little bit right now.

- What would you like to see happen and/or change within the fashion industry in the future?
Gemma - I would like it if the industry used more genuine vintage pieces rather than creating new pieces every year that are made to look vintage. They charge the same amount, as if it is a unique piece, when it doesn't actually have that individual quality. I would love it if brands went out of their way to find vintage pieces.

- Do you tend to find a similar age range shops here?
Sophie- I would say that there is definitely a variety of people that come in.
Gemma- We do aim a lot of things at students though, because we do get a lot of students in. (They offer 10% off for students guys!)

- What do you think makes vintage fashion so popular?
Sophie - One, because vintage brands can be cheaper, it's also because it's so diverse as well. You can get so many different styles and different eras. With vintage we've almost done the hard work for you, we've found you the pieces you've just got to try them on and buy.
Gemma - It's that one off piece thing as well that I think is the main thing, you know that walking down the street you're not going to be wearing the same dress or top as somebody else.

I then asked the girls to pick out some of their favourite pieces and this is what they chose...

My favourite part about the afternoon was that I was able to pick out a few pieces from the store and put together an outfit. This is what I chose...

I fell in love with these dungarees instantly, after this I was a little torn with what to pair these with but with a little help from Gemma and Sophie, I settled on this gorgeous velvet shirt, which up close has a super lovely 70's pattern.

So

Until next time my lovelies,
